History
A comparatively small detachment of Astartes and support units under the command of Nabonidus Astyages, sent to accompany the fleet of Rogue Trader Hanno Chimilkât on a cautious reconnaissance of certain regions below the galactic disc near the Australis Ultima Sector. The return of the fleet was delayed by sudden violent warp storms, and upon limping back into civilized space they were shocked - indeed, utterly confounded - to discover that the galaxy has gone mad. Horus turned against the Emperor? Their own Legion declared traitors and Astyages' adopted homeworld of Prospero destroyed?? Roboute Guilliman, the most even-tempered and reasonable of Primarchs has seceded the entire Ultramar sector???
Certainly the expedition had done nothing to deserve the ire it has received from other Legions they previously considered the staunchest of allies, and were it not for assurances from members of the Alpha Legion who themselves declare innocence of any wrongdoing, the entire Expeditionary Fleet might have fled back into the galactic dark. As it stands, Astyages and Chimilkât have two priorities - secure supplies depleted by the long expedition, and most important of all, secure information.
